David spent over 30 years working for Smith & Nephew, a global medical device company, with leadership positions in each of its markets. Initially working in research and product development, David was involved in bringing to market and launching 19 new products, some of which form key pillars of the current business portfolio.
15 successful years in R&D led to a transfer to the Corporate HQ, to work on and then lead the Group Strategy and M&A processes.
After leading numerous acquisitions, company disposals, and business integrations within the corporate centre, David moved to Shanghai, China to help establish and grow the business in this and other key developing markets. Whilst in China the revenues grew 8x in four years. This success led to the formation of a much larger business unit dedicated to the development of the ROW business. David moved to Dubai and in the following 30 months grew revenues by 4x and the profits by 7x, alongside completing a further six acquisitions.
In 2014 David led the development of the new strategy for Global Operations with a centralization, rationalization and refocus of over 7000 employees, and included 4 factory closures, 23 product line moves, 3 office consolidations.
In 2016 David started a consultancy, advising start-ups and other corporates on their growth ambitions, using his strong commercial skills; he has continued to lead and complete a number of acquisition projects.
David has an MBA from Manchester Business School.
